Abilene Cattle Town 1871

Handle 19th Century artifacts and explore Randy Jones’ illustrations of Abilene in Elspeth Leacock and Susan Buckley’s book, Places in Time. Step into the picture and imagine the life of a cowboy. Write a poem or act out a scene from the illustration. We will help you all along the way!

Log Cabin Days Freestone County Historical Museum Camp

What was it like to live over one hundred years ago? What kind of chores would you do? What would you do for fun? Brush a pony, ride a cart, play with hoops, card sheep’s wool, walk on stilts!

Come join us as we step back in time and create log cabin characters!

  • Hands-on activities, reading, writing, storytelling and acting!

  • Ages 8 - 14

  • Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 9 to 11 AM                                                      (with a performance for family and friends Saturday Morning)

  • Fee $15.00 per participant (Scholarships available)

You must contact the museum to register – limit four to six participants.

The Pony and the Miniature Horse

Be a history detective and discover what you can learn about the role of these small but mighty little animals.

  • 60 minutes

  • Ages 8 to Adult

  • 4 to 6 participants
  • $4.00 per person includes admission fee


The Vintage Photograph Study

Learn to analyze a photograph just like a historian then create a small photo display for the museum.
